A 19-year-old Morayfield man has been hit with more than $2,900 in fines and lost his licence for six months after allegedly being clocked at more than twice the speed limit on Queensland’s Bruce Highway.
Moreton Police reported that on Wednesday, February 25, a white Volkswagen Golf hatchback was first detected by a mobile speed camera travelling at 133km/h near the Bribie Island interchange at around 8:45pm.
Shortly after, officers from the Moreton North Highway Patrol Group conducting speed enforcement duties at Elimbah observed the same vehicle allegedly speeding at 222km/h in the northbound lane. Police attempted to stop the car, but the driver failed to stop.
Following further investigations and assistance from members of the public, police contacted the driver, who agreed to meet officers at Reed Street in Glasshouse Mountains.
The man was issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, incurring a $1,919 fine, eight demerit points, and an automatic six-month licence suspension. He also received a $1,001 fine for failing to stop for police without reasonable excuse.
