A nationwide initiative known as the “Great Dunny Hunt” has been launched to encourage Australians to help map public toilets across the country. The project is supported by the Continence Foundation of Australia and aims to improve the accuracy of Australia’s National Public Toilet Map by inviting community members to identify and report toilet facilities in their local areas.
The initiative is designed to assist the more than seven million Australians living with continence conditions, as well as travellers, older Australians, and families with young children who rely on access to clean and accessible public toilets. Organisers say having accurate information about toilet locations can help people plan journeys more confidently and participate more freely in daily activities.
Participants in the campaign are encouraged to verify existing toilet listings, update facility details, and report new locations through the national mapping system. Community involvement is seen as a key part of ensuring that information remains accurate and up to date across cities, regional towns, and remote areas.
Health advocates say improving public awareness and infrastructure around accessible toilets is an important step in supporting dignity, independence, and mobility for people living with continence challenges. The campaign also aims to encourage local councils and communities to consider accessibility when planning public facilities.
