Emergency services were called to Keilor Road in Niddrie, in Melbourne’s northwest, about 9.20am on Monday following reports that a car had collided with a building. Paramedics from Advanced Life Support units and the Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance attended the scene soon after.
Injuries and hospitalisation
Ambulance crews treated a woman in her 50s who suffered injuries to both her upper and lower body. She, along with a man in his 60s whose specific injuries have not yet been confirmed, was transported to The Royal Melbourne Hospital for further treatment.
Traffic and transport impact
Authorities have closed the intersection of Keilor Road and Hoffmans Road in Niddrie to all traffic and trams in every direction due to the seriousness of the collision. The Department of Transport and Planning has advised motorists and residents to use local detour routes as directed by emergency services to access homes and businesses in the affected area.
Ongoing investigations
Officials have stated that the intersection will only be reopened to vehicles and trams once crash investigations are completed and the site is deemed safe. Police and transport authorities remain at the scene as inquiries into the cause of the collision continue.
