A major police operation targeting drug and illegal firearm activity in the Toowoomba region has concluded, resulting in the arrest of 103 people facing a combined 942 charges.
Dubbed Operation Xray Ambrose, the six-month investigation was led by the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and began in August last year. Police combined overt and covert techniques, executing 80 search warrants with support from the Darling Downs Tactical Crime Squad, Public Safety Response Team, State Flying Squad, and Taskforce Maxima.
The operation led to the seizure of more than $120,000 in cash, 674 grams of methylamphetamine, 19.4 grams of heroin, a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover, and 15 illegal firearms—including a 9mm Glock handgun that police allege was stolen during a Harristown burglary in December 2024.
Fifteen individuals were charged with trafficking offences and are scheduled to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court in the coming months.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker, Officer in Charge of Toowoomba CIB, described the results as significant, noting the large quantity of drugs and illegal weapons removed from the community.
“This operation aimed to do more than simply remove drugs and illegal weapons from the streets; it was about causing disruption to local drug supply chains,” he said.
“These arrests demonstrate the Queensland Police Service’s commitment to keeping the community safe and instils confidence that law enforcement is pursuing illegal activity. We continue to urge any members of the public who may have information regarding the supply of illicit drugs or firearms to contact police to help keep our community safe.”
