The Queensland Department of Education has confirmed an international cybersecurity breach involving Instructure, the third‑party provider behind the State’s online learning platform, QLearn.
The incident has affected thousands of educational institutions across Queensland, Australia and overseas. Early briefings indicate the breach may impact more than 200 million people and over 9,000 institutions worldwide.
Initial advice is that students and staff connected to Education Queensland schools since 2020 are among those affected. At this stage, the data compromised includes names, email addresses and school locations. Authorities say there is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth or financial information have been accessed.
School principals are now contacting families and teachers.
The Department has also activated priority support for individuals known to Child Safety or with family and domestic violence concerns.
Officials say Queenslanders will be updated as more information becomes available.
